White mobs formed in Atlanta after the evening papers ran unsubstantiated reports of Black men assaulting white women, and attacked Black residents and businesses over the following days. Estimates of the Black dead run from 25 to 40, with unofficial counts from 10 to 100. Two white people were killed.
