Classical Numismatic Group — Public Domain, Wikimedia Commons 1358 Abu Inan Faris, the Marinid sultan who had pushed Moroccan rule east over Tlemcen, Bijaya and, briefly, Tunis, was deposed in Fez by his vizier al-Hasan ibn Umar, who put a five-year-old son on the throne. The sultan, about 29 and already gravely ill, died two days later. Ibn Khaldun, then in Fez, recorded the report that the vizier had him strangled. The dynasty never recovered its reach.
